Weekly painting - Who gets the ball?
Inspired by several artists/illustrators blogs a la 1-painting-a-day, in my latest newsletter (download here), I have sat the goal of one painting a week. Not at least to keep myself on track - despite all obstacles meaning lack of time - to keep drawing and painting every week of the year.
This week has been hectic, but I managed to make this small picture: "Who gets the ball?" A illustrative style with ink and watercolors.

Why I draw and paint
I have made a new page on my website: Why I draw and paint? to tell you a bit about my inspirations.
Take a look here
Tuxedo cat
"Tuxedo cat" is a coloristic painting with emphasis on expression and coloring.
I had a lot of fun painting in this looser style with watercolor, and wanted to paint an acrylic too. The actual method and final look are very different - the fun is equal :)

Painted on acrylic board. 30x40 cm.
Snake escape I + II
Snake Escape I and II, are mixed media abstract paintings I just finished.
The starting point for this series is just the word "snake", I then create an abstract painting from that.
The medias used are Staedtler pencil, WinsorNewton and Lukas watercolors, FaberCastell pitt pens and Caran d'ache neocolor I.

Badut lady
In my onlinegalleries I have a gallery called "Lively ladies, where you among others can meet the Badut lady(impossible to translate I'm sorry). I have just painted her on running wheels. Earlier painting on ball.
A lively, whimsical and proud captivating person, who likes to act.
Akrylic paintings 40 x 40 cm.
Great horned owl - loose watercolor
I am now at my 4.th "Colorful birds" painting a great horned owl.
Just like the previous 3, great fun to paint.
I plan on painting 12 having a calender in mind, even I might not achieve that in a row...
40 x 40 cm on watercolor canvas
Flamingo - Colorful birds
"Flamingo" is my 3.rd "Colorful Bird" painting. A feast of colors and feathers.
As written before: I totally enjoy the process of these paintings. No media like watercolor can be so unpredictable, and yet exciting to work with. It is really a balance of control and letting go.
I love most of the textures watercolors creates. Sometimes these textures are mistakes in paintings, but I force/wish many of them to happen, for an exciting surface. Afterall this is a mix of realism and abstraction :)
I took the ref-photo at a zoo years ago. I have several flamino-pictures, but for this square size, I needed one where the neck was not all stretched out ;)
As I cannot scan a canvas, the file is a digi-photo, and even I have a good camera, the file does not provide the same justice to the real painting.
The painting are sprayed with fixfixative and varnish, to be lasting without being behind glass!
50x50 cm on watercolor canvas.
Peacock - loose watercolor
"Peacock" is my second loose-watercolor birdpainting.

I took the ref-photo at a zoo years ago. Everybody find the peacock a beautiful bird (I guess :)). Even the large tail is what you usually think of first with peacocks, I found this posture strong enough to use as composition.

Grazing days
I have added "Grazing days" to my print-selection.
There are plenty of summer atmosphere in this drawing of a grazing horse, seen with an unusual perspective.

Snowy owl - loose watercolors
Here are the finished painting. I really enjoyed the process; drawing totally freehand - looking at referencephoto I have from zoo, and then painting in the loose coloristic way and with the abstractive background.
It gave me a freedom not only while working but also with my expectations with the finished painting. I loved it :)
Snowy owl - loose watercolors
I am working on a loose watercolorpainting of a snowy owl. The support is new for me, a canvas for watercolor.
It is very nice to paint on, the paint layer well and runs easily. It takes a while to dry though, but that is not just bad.
I am sure I will use this canvas' again, I like to work on it, and it will look nice when hanging.
I will finish it in this week.
Dogs with Hats
This is my second illustration in the series "Dogs with hats": "Boxer with cap".
I thinks he looks like a very proud dog :)
