Progress on the Bongo painting. I paint shadows with Burnt Umber first. Many layers, texture and details to come.
Bongo - wip
I really need to get some paintings ready - the Easter exhibition will arrive, and I also want to expand my palette of paintings for future exhibitions. I decdided to paint more animals in my Perfect Stripes serie, but in a smaller size. It is always a nice thing to have different price-options to present to people/exhibition-organizers. This will be 40x60 cm and is a beautiful Bongo Antelope. Acrylic on canvas. So far the outlines drawn with a few grid-guidelines :)
White Storks - wip finished
Here is a couple of more wip-shots, and the final picture.
I had trouble using my (3 different) masking fluids for the nest. They were all more or less dried out - one bottle never opened before :( - it is an issue with masking fluid. I also have a pen - I managed to work a little bit with that.... Anyway that way I got some of the light straws in the nest.
I spend quite some time refining the background in Photoshop. The values between the storks white backs and the background was very close, giving me a hard time. Finally got the job done with a uniform background...
The painting is just a bit more thight than I had planned, but still I like it.
Do you think it has a romantic/sweetness feel about it ?
----------------------------
White Storks - wip
I have started painting a pair of White Storks, aiming for a loose and romantic look. I want this to be an illustration for cards etc.
I started drawing in my sketchbook, looking on stork images on my tablet.
I then freehand draw - with a few helping lines - the drawing onto my larger watercolor paper. This is Fabriano Artistico HP.
The sketch is not that accurate, so I look at my tablet for certaing details.
After finishing the drawing, I start off with layers of watercolors, choosing mainly the most transparent hues.
I want the graphite too show through in the final piece, but not too much.
I find this style - light crisp graphite strokes and loose watercolors - a very attractive style, fitting well for the more romantic look vs a more realistic and tight style (but I also like that style :)).
----
Portrait in watercolors - finished
Here is my finished watercolor portrait.
Painted on A3, 300 gsm Canson Montval watercolorpaper.
The portrait is build up from a shadowlayer and then several valuelayers. all thin and transparant. I am happy with the finished portrait.
Portrait in watercolors - wip
I am following a "portraits in watercolor" course, and it's working fine.
My portrait will probably end up more realistic than the teachers, without too much significant extra "topping". I have enough to do painting the portrait itself :) With more experience I will try out the added spice of drawing back into a portrait with personal lines and pattern.
Southern ground hornbill wip
