Last Dance Cattails - finished
"Au revoir Tournesol" and "Last Dance Cattails"
Wednesday on my drawingday with Camilla, I finished the drawing Last Dance Cattails. Several interesting textures to work with. I enjoyed drawing it, and I hope you enjoy looking at the drawing.
I came up with the series titel. Fall. Beside the obvious referral to the season, and fall-mood, I also want to emphasize the melancholy I find in the dying plants. The sparrows life go on, but it is also part of the lifecircle, and will reach its own fall of life.
I like the strong focus on "the actors", enhanced by the white background. I will be looking for more motif ideas for this serie.
..............................
Last dance cattails - wip
Here are my latest work on "Last dance cattails". The cattails themselves.
Its been 14 days since I last worked on this, as last week Camilla and I went for an exhibition. It turned out to be a bit of a dissapointment, but luckily there was a baker/pastry shop nearby, so we went for cake and coffee :)
Sewing by yourself or readymade?
I find it really fun to make pattern designs. It is a task that I want to develop and I have tried different methods. I have made patterns of watercolor elements, and of ink drawings and mix-media elements. I like to work with the design elements by hand first, and then on the computer, to compose patterns. There are a lot of designers who draw directly on the computer, and with great success, but that's not really me. I join in some of Spoonflowers patterndesign Challenges. But beyond that, the designs I put up for sale (in the near future) can be purchased as fabrics, for sewing projects.
The fabrics are available in several types, from lighter to heavier fabrics. At Roostery you will be able to buy the fabrics sewn for bedding, table runners, tea towels and more.

Her lidt fotos til inspiration :).........

Moths on Gold
I participate in the Spoonflower challenge "Moths".
I started with inkdrawings of 7 moths. I had a fun time drawing these insects, even I am a bit afraid of moths. Think I added a little cuteness to the animal :)
Then I did some small drawings to fill into the final pattern. I scanned everything and designed the patterndesign on my computer. And added the background of gold.
The patterndesign is now avaliable on my Redbubble Doggyshop in "The Zoo" collection. It is placed on a lot of stuff, from clothes to mugs, wall-deco, scarfs, pillows and more.
The challenge on Spoonflower is open to public voting on thursday. Here is a link: https://www.spoonflower.com/design-challenge/moths - you can Like and Vote on all the designs you want to.
Click the heart icon to like, and click the Select button (left side of patterns) to vote for the pattern :) I guess there will be hundreds of designs to enjoy.
The Elements - Water - steps
Here I will take you through steps of my graphite/watercolor/ink work of Water - The Elements serie.
The whole idea started out of inspiration from a poem my daughter wrote (she writes the most wonderful poems).
I started out with a print of a picture of a woman. My character does not look like a portrait of her, and it wasn't my intention to make her like that. I want a picture to have an image for the eyes to work from, not just fantasy (drawing is seeing).
My print is much smaller than my drawing, and I made the drawing without any kind of measurement, aside from my eyes measurement. The eyes are the first thing to be drawn and then the nose, mouth, then the shape of the head.
Actually I started a bit to far on the right side of the paper, to follow my first idea - her holding a conch. But so be it. I was too happy with the face to erase it. In my drawing I add shapes to a more sculpted look (not flat). It helps me when painting.
I want the background painted first. With wet loose watercolors I paint it, and then start on the womans hair. I had decided she should have the color of green-blue water. You can see I placed conches attached to her hair, now my first idea with her holding them, was not possible.
I start to paint her skin. I love watercolor edges, some sharp and some blurred. Building op a sense of form, even I don't want this image to be all realistic. Still she is naked.
My wish is to make a mix of realism and imagination. One way to do this is to make a stylized pattern.
I found her hair perfect for this idea. My media for this is fluid watercolors (bottle) and inkpen (dip pen). Deliberately let the lines go in different directions.
Her face is going to be the most detailed part. I work on her eyes, nose, ear and mouth and establish the shapes of cheeks and chin. Still I want to avoid pure realism.
I added gold-watercolor to her jewelry, but it will not show on the screen, I'm sorry.
I found her being naked didn't work for me. First I placed the violet shells on her nipples. Then I placed some seaweeds on her breast. Neither worked well.
I then took the decision to get her dressed up in a green dress. I had a lot of trouble making that work, but finally I went with the green top, and a mesh below (you will see in the final image).
I also found out, I wanted fish in this image. Actually at some point I turned direction away from the poem (where it had fit to have the conch in the hand). Instead the idea of a female symbol of the element of water came up.
Where to place a fish? A tattoo of cause. This enhance the symbol of the woman herself as symbol of Water.
Fish tattoo made. Then I had the idea to connect it with the background with a lock of hair.
The final drawing. In many ways I achieved what I set out for - making a beautiful female in an interesting setting , having strong and complement colors. Also making an image that is a mix of realism and imagination.
My ideas in the process changed the work - like not having a nude woman, and separating from the first idea from the poem. It also became more symbolic than first intended. I do like her anyway.
Well, here she is Water :)
The Elements: Water
The Elements: Water. Here is my finished drawing of the female. Water symbolizes among other things: feelings, intuition and fantasy. The artwork is a mix of graphite, watercolor and colorpencil on Fabriano paper. I intend to make the other elements too - you can make your entrace in my fantasy, females of Fire, Earth and Air
:) (Unfortunately The screenpicture makes gold look yellow) // The Elements: Water.

100Headschallenge - 3
Just 3 heads this weekend. I am starting to get a feel of some of my preferred methods. Still not the excact likeness in these, and slightly quirky in proportion, but that is minor to me so far. Or in other words, I am aware of it, and like them anyway ;)
100HeadsChallenge - 2
I did more #100headschallenge sketches today, but didn't manage 10, so I suppose my 100 heads will take more than 10 days to complete.
Here is todays sketches. I find myself preferring the ink-sketches.
I don't want a lot of shading on those, but still need to define shape/form with lines. My favorite on this page is the 2 females on right hand. I took more time to the last than any of the others.
100HeadsChallenge - 1
I decided to try to follow this #100headschallenge Link - the goal is to draw 10 heads a day for 10 days in a row - a total of 100 heads. Well, I am already a little behind as I started yesterday, but I will try to keep up, to reach the 100 on day 10 !
I do this sketch challenge as I really want to see if there is a development in the sketches. I also want to practise drawing heads, without the pressure of doing a "finished, realistic portrait".
I do very little sketching at all, but I actually want to. Sketching can be done in order to make a larger and more finished drawing/painting. But a sketch can be a small, and very lively drawing, done and excisting only for its own value - and whenever you draw anything you practise skills ;)
I used pencil and ink-pen for the above sketches. They are a mix of lightly sketching realism in pencil, doing contour-drawing in inkpen(follow the contour with your eyes, and draw at the same time), and a more sketchy style in inkpen. All done a bit quickly.
From this challenge I also hope to find my favorite practise of sketching.
The pictures for this challenge is listed as a Pinterest Board below the video on Youtube.
Boxer in ink
Here is my latest inkdrawing - a wonderful boxer.
On the first pic is the outline I draw with ink-pens. The weimaraner is watching :) Second pic, I add layers of ink with a brush. The finished drawing, and last now you can buy it in my Doggyshops on a variaty of stuff :)
