Pineapple

This is the final drawing. I know it - sunday I showed you a whole different picture, with the entire pineapple on paper!
Well, there are things I like a lot about this piece, and a couple of things I find did not go in the right direction.
As it is here, I can accept the outcome ;)

sorry that the paper looks shadowed. I have adjusted the pineapple to be true colors, but if I adjust the paper to white as it really is, I will loose the graphitelines, that are supposed to be a part of the drawing... scan looks even worse ;0

Pineapple

With a handfull of various colored pencils I apply color and wet afterwards.
I want 3 dimensionality, but at the same time I do not wanna get a lot of details in.

Pineapple

In this update of my Pineapple drawing, you can see the whole drawing.
The pineapple having such a complex structure, was a challenge to draw freehand.

I intend to keep the measuring lines in graphite, I like them, and they suit my intentions with the project.

Long way to go yet :) - the model is still holding on!

Weekly review

"Arctic Fox" - a coloristic watercolorpainting.
The arctic fox is painted soft, delicate colors. I like the way the blending of colors in layers gives a mix of soft and hard edges and interesting color mixes.
I love the interaction of crisp graphite strokes and watercolors.
The fox is painted on 300 gsm watercolorpaper, and I learned that when painting as wet as this, I better use 600 gsm + paper, as I have not managed to press this paper flat.
Even so, as a print it works :) - if interested, you can purchase it here

Pineapple

I have just started with a new drawing.
A pineapple, drawn freehand looking at a pineapple, that hopefully will last some time :)

I am drawing with graphitepencil and painting with watersoluble colored pencils.
I want the mix to be seen; clear, crisp pencilstrokes together with the colors.
I did mix pencil/watercolorpaints in other pieces, and liked the result. I must see if this turns out fine, too.

In the red marking you can see a hard edge in the watersoluble colored pencil. I love these hard edges, that can easily be made with paints, I wasn't so sure with the pencils.

Aproxx.. 12x16.8 inches on coldpressed watercolorpaper.

Drawingtable with a view

After my drawingtable has been turned in all the other 3 directions, I now turned it as you see on the photo - with a view into my garden.
And I am happy with it. I do turn my back to the room (kitchen and this space is originally the dining-place), but its fine.
Having my view into the garden instead of into the room, gives me more peace to draw and paint :)

Weekly review

This weeks review includes the three paintings in the serie "Chameleons".
I think chameleons are facinating animals.
I wanted the artwork to be fairytale-like. I love the mix of delicate graphite lines and beautiful, transparent watercolors. The art was fun to do, also with the imaginative surroundings.

Original (1+2) 21 x 29,7 cm and (3) 29,7 x 42 cm

Oriental sisters

"Oriental sisters" are finished.
I think that my idea of a realistic, but also expressive piece succeeded. It has been a fun and quite liberating process - compared to pure realism.
Each flower/sister has her very own attitude :) - not to forget the small ones ;)
The complimentary hues are great against each other and adds a nice contrast. The mottled background is deliberate to create vitality in the piece.
I am satisfied with this.

Oriental sisters

I am now working on the 3. flower. I really enjoy the process of this drawing. I also think that my idea of a realistic but especially expressive motif seems to work out.
With expressive I mean think that the motif does not have to follow the "rules" demanded of realism, but that I can work from my freehand drawing and be more free with the look.

Oriental sisters

Now poppy no. 2 are painted. Slightly less detailed than the flower in front.
I really like, how the flowers looks different and has different "attitudes".

Weekly review

"Shire and appletrees in blossum" was painted in colored pencils, in a new way for me. A method of using fewer layers and aiming for a more less-detailed drawing. I was very concerned to vizualise a mood.

I had some trouble deciding if I liked the drawing or not - being used to go more in details, and as time has passed, I actually like this drawing better now than I did earlier. Especially as I think my idea of the mood shows through.

Oriental sisters

At the moment I am working on a colored pencil drawing I call "Oriental sisters".
The flowers are oriental poppies.
I used to have these in my garden and find them very beautiful.

The drawing are meant to be realistic, but more so an expressive image. Of cause the title implies a further layer to the image.

I reduce layering as much as possible. The flowers will be added zest-it while the background will remain as it is.
